Wifey For Life Workshop

Posted by on May 26, 2015

Have you heard of Wifey for Life? The concept is unique and captured my attention immediately.  I was intrigued by the basis of the workshop which is educating a bride from the perspective of a real wedding pro.  I am all about education! I believe when anyone is better informed of anything it empowers them. That is what BE is all about so I knew this was an event I wanted to take part in.  I was lucky enough to be asked by the creator of the event, Lauren O’Brien, to be the first hair & make up vendor to attend.  Lauren is also the owner of Lauren O. Events and a master when it comes to coordinating and organizing anything and everything.  Now, I say this from experience because I have since brought her onto our team to do just that!  Some of you may get the chance to speak with her when she is coordinating the beauty details for BE.

Wifey for Life is the first of it’s kind so I was unsure how to prepare for it. I knew my job was to help inform the brides in attendance with valuable insider information and tips but, in all honesty, I did not know what to expect or what exactly I would talk about. I wanted it to be an open Q&A and not be up there just going on and on advertising my own business.

Public speaking at it’s finest. Owner Ashley Stone

As you can see, I am amazing at public speaking! lol.  One of my tips I gave was a big one we come across often. “Clean hair is BETTER than dirty hair!”   For some reason the going thought is that dirty hair is best for an undo. I figured out why, most of my brides haven’t gotten an undo since prom. Most of which had hair horror stories lol. Don’t we all have one?   Either way, hair styling from 5-10 years ago was more “sculpted” so the dirty hair played a great role. These days, with soft and tousled or voluminous hair as the going trend, dirty hair just means flat and separated curls.  I’m pretty sure we repeat that tip when we confirm appointments for trials and day of the wedding…oh and any other chance in between. You would be surprised how many have that engrained. Your reading this and laughing thinking you are guilty of this thought. lol  No worries, your not alone!

Below is a typical setup for one of our artists. I gave advice on how to prepare for a traveling hair and make up team and how much space we need. Make sure outlets are nearby, table, chairs, and great natural lighting.

The day was filled with exciting info that I even had an opportunity to learn from other pros. For example, Capture Photography had this ridiculously awesome presentation that made everyone laugh and learn. I loved her explanation of the various types of photography and photographers. Also, pointing out that having insurance as a professional is something brides should realize is an important question to ask. Most brides don’t realize that anyone you hire should have proper insurance in place.  It was a great point.  Some venues will also require this of your vendors to present so be sure, who you hire does have this in place.

The Wedding Embassy’s owner,  Megan,  also shared some great insider tips on how to fix a broken bustle. This would have come in handy for me when I renewed my vows a few months ago. SAFETY PINS!!   She even demonstrated on how to hide the pins too.

Unfortunately, I stayed long enough to support the vendors at my table but, had to scoot out a little early before I could see the rest.  Overall, I highly recommend this event. Lauren always shares info on anything that is upcoming on her website and her fan page
